If you have just started playing the electric guitar or are keen to learn then you will need a beginners electric guitar.
These types of guitar are ideal for new and aspiring guitarists because of the various specific features which make them very affordable and easy for learning on.
Although they may be designed for beginners, entry level electric guitars tend to look very much like more expensive, mid-level instruments, often based on popular designs and featuring all of the same standard controls and basic features that every electric guitar has.
Many beginners electric guitars are intended to look like variations on the designs of four of the most popular and classic models in the history of the guitar. These are Fender’s classic Stratocaster and Telecaster and Gibson’s wonderfully successful Les Paul, variations of which can be seen in the image at the top of our homepage.
Ranging in price between around $50-$200 an entry level guitar is a fantastic gift for children and adults alike. Due to being light in weight, children can easily transport them to and from school and/or guitar lessons and adults can use them as travel companions should they wish to take an easily transportable musical instrument with them on short or long vacations, or even just to have around the house ready for moments of musical inspiration!
There is a huge variety of entry level guitars available and of course some will be better than others, but all will consist of the same or similar features with the sole aim of comprising an affordable, comfortable, lightweight first instrument on which to learn the ropes.
The rugged construction of a beginners electric guitar means that they can take a fair amount of abuse at the hands of carefree children and novices.
The best thing about learning to play on a beginners electric guitar is that if you can hone your skills on an entry level guitar then you will play and sound far better on a slightly more mid-range instrument once you have mastered the basics.

1 – SQUIER BY FENDER BULLET STRAT
In our opinion the Squier Bullet Stratocaster is the best choice for a beginner elctric guitar. At around $120 it is a very affordable and practical guitar which is well suited to novices of all ages interested in learning a variety of styles.
For a guitar of this price range it looks, feels and most importantly sounds as good as a guitar that is twice the price.
In terms of features this guitar has 3 single coil pickups, a 5 position pickup selector switch, master volume/tone/tone controls, a single ply pickguard, a maple neck with rosweood fingerboard, 21 medium jumbo frets and chrome hardware.
The colour of the model pictured above is of course the classis brown sunburst but the Squier Bullet Stratocaster is also available in Fiesta Red, Daphne Blue, Black, Pink and Arctic White. The Squier Bullet Strat really is a wonderful guitar and is by far the most value for money in a beginner electric guitar.
3 – SQIUER AFFINITY TELECASTER
This is a beautiful Squier Affinity Series Telecaster in Butterscotch blonde. Retailing at around $180 this is still a great contender for a beginners electric guitar. The Telecaster is an historic musical instrument, being based on the design of the first electric guitars that Fender ever built back in the very early 50s.
You will notice immediately that the Telecaster differs in appearance from the Stratocasters featured above. Telecasters are renowned for being much simpler in construction and which is why they have become such a no nonsense, workhorse, staple guitar of choice for journeyman guitarists and session musicians since there inception.
They feature a slab style body, one neck pickup for a lovely warm tone, one bridge pickup for a sharp, classic country twang, a selector switch and volume and tone controls. The solid construction of such Telecasters means that they are almost indestructible instruments which will last for years and years, making them great for beginners and seasoned musicians alike. We absolutely love this guitar!
4- EPIPHONE LES PAUL SPECIAL II

The next guitar featured here is the Epiphone Les Paul Speciall II. Epiphone is a subsidiary of legendary guitar makers Gibson who are licensed to manufacture more affordable guitars based on Gibson’s most popular guitars such as the historic Les Paul.
The Les Special II retails at around $170 and is similar to the Telecaster’s slab body design, making it another highly durable guitar which would be ideal for beginners.
The guitar features two Alnico V Humbuckers which will go some way to providing you with a great rock tone and wonderfully crunchy distortion. The tone, volume and toggle controls will allow you to control the sound of the guitar so you can find the one that you like best.
The Epiphone Les Paul Speciall II’s solid basswood body and slightly angled headstock also provide you with a more sustain so you can really hold those notes when soloing, perfect for Joe Perry, Jimmy Page and Slash fans alike.
This guitar is available in a variety of colours including Ebony, White, Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Vintage Sunburst (pictured) and Wine Red.
